Journeying with God: A Commentary on the Book of Numbers is unavailable, but you can change that!

Although little studied by most Christians, the book of Numbers offers a rich storehouse of material for reflection on the relationship between God and the human community. This excellent commentary highlights this theme in the context of interpreting the many strange and obscure stories and laws of Israel’s wilderness journey.

But he consults God again, and this time God gives Balaam permission to make the trip, provided he does only God’s bidding. Balaam saddles his donkey and the journey begins. Here we encounter another anomaly in the story. God has just given Balaam permission to go to Moab (v. 20), but now God becomes angry because he is going (v. 22).
